Safety First

Look out for the safety of you and your work mates!

Young workers (15-24 year olds) are more likely to be injured at work than any other age group.
To prevent accidents and injuries from occurring you should:

  • Recognise and report safety hazards at work
  • Work safely and follow procedures

Ask questions when you are unsure. Make suggestions about health and safety for your workplace. Workplace safety, or as it is also referred to, occupational health and safety (OH&S) refers to the legislation, policies, procedure and activities that aim to protect the health, safety and welfare of people on the workplace. These laws and rules ensure you are not exposed to hazards, provided with a safe workplace and trained to reduce your risk of injury. It is the joint responsibility of employers and employees to ensure a healthy and safe environment.Your host employer must by law provide a safe and healthy work environment that protects you from both physical and psychological hazards. They must ensure you are provided with information, training and supervision to do your job safely including using all equipment correctly and providing personal protective equipment if needed.
