New Horizons Open For Daniel - South Burnett News
Daniel Ruthenberg is enjoying getting hands-on with his mechanics apprenticeship
New career horizons have opened up for Daniel Ruthenberg, who recently began a light vehicle mechanical apprenticeship at Huston Motors.
Daniel is one of four apprentices at Huston Motors at the moment, but unlike the others he has moderate to severe profound hearing loss.
Dealer principal Mark Huston said Daniel, 25, had always shown an interest in becoming a mechanic and when the opportunity was offered to him, he jumped at it.
Daniel has been working as a detailer at Huston’s since he finished Year 12 and has always loved everything about cars.
He started his four-year apprenticeship earlier this year and told southburnett.com.au he was really enjoying it.
The apprenticeship is being handled by WPC Group – a group training scheme – and Daniel is also getting support from APM, a disability employment service.

The four Huston apprentices travel to Brisbane where they undertake Nissan-specific training through TAFE Queensland.

At the end of their training, they will be Nissan-certified technicians.
Mark said the apprenticeship training taught the young men discipline as well as skills.
“The standard that comes out is very good, probably the best,” he said.
He said Daniel had always been a good worker and completed a Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation at Kingaroy TAFE before starting his apprenticeship.
