'WPC Group awards Downer the 2018 Diversity Employer Award' - Mineral Technologies, Online
Downer has been awarded the 2018 Diversity Employer Award by group training organisation WPC Group.
Presented at the annual awards ceremony in July, the award recognises Downer’s commitment to providing employment, training and skills development opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
Contributing to the award was Downer’s Mineral Technologies business, which employs Riki Saltner as a Fitter/Boilermaker Apprentice and, up until recently, employed Freddie Hill as a Logistics Coordinator studying a Certificate III in Business.
Accepting the award on behalf of Downer, Alex de Andrade, Global Manager, Sales Equipment and Technology with the Mineral Technologies business said the assistance from WPC Group allowed Mineral Technologies to introduce two new recruits into the business bringing increased diversity. "We value the support from the WPC Group in helping to bring new people into our business and we are thankful for the support from our mentors within Mineral Technologies in helping to progress trainees through their training and apprenticeship programs," said Alex.
Also receiving an award at the ceremony was Downer trainee, Courtney Feuerriegel, who received the Skilling Australia Foundation Graduate Award in recognition of exceptional performance as a business trainee. The selection process for this award reviewed graduates engaged in traineeships and apprenticeships across a range of criteria including: attitude; commitment to workplace safety; workplace communication and relationship development; and practical application of theory studies.
Based at Woolloongabba, Courtney reports to Glen Slapp, Group Manager Property and Facilities. Glen said Courtney’s win was well deserved.
"Courtney is an enthusiastic contributor to our reception and facilities support team. Under the watchful eye of our experienced receptionist Trish Seccombe, Courtney is progressing through her traineeship. We are delighted to have Courtney in our team and very pleased to see her receive the award from the Skilling Australia Foundation," said Glen.
